The MacGregors’ Dark Beauty has been named as a Session II finalist in the Folk category at The John Lennon Songwriting Contest. The Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters who submit entries in any one of 12 categories. It is one of the most well known and well respected international songwriting competitions. As there is no teen category, Dark Beauty is competing against songwriters of all ages. In 2004, Greg Sczebel was named the Grand Prize winner in the Gospel category for Here to Stay.
In addition to these honours, Sczebel, Alisha and Rachel MacGregor have made it to the final round of the International Songwriting Competition. Sczebel is nominated in the Gospel/Christian category for In The Pocket, while Rachel and Alisha are nominated separately in the Teen category for I Can Hardly Breathe and Well Of Pain respectively. Winners will be announced March 31st.
The MacGregors’ full-length debut release Dark Beauty and Sczebel’s best-selling debut Here To Stay are currently at Canadian Christian retailers nationwide. To hear audio samples of these nominated songs, visit their respective YMZ artist pages.
