Switchfoot Annual Bro-Am Surf Contest And Concert Is Here

Publish Date: Jun 06, 2008

Switchfoot’s annual Bro-Am Surf Contest And Concert is once again here. It will be held tomorrow in Encinitas, California just north of San Diego. Lead vocalist Jon Foreman sent us this reminder:

Hola Amigos!

The time is almost upon us… it might be my favorite day of the year… The Switchfoot Bro-Am Surf Contest and Concert returns to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas this Saturday, June 7!

The Bro-Am is a free concert/surf contest on the beach in our hometown. It was created as a way to give back to the San Diego community that’s given us so much; it’s become an annual event near and dear to our hearts. Every year we’ve been able to use the event to raise funds to help out kids that are struggling in our hometown. All of the money raised at this year’s event goes to an incredible organization that started right here in San Diego: StandUp for Kids.

StandUp For Kids

Over the past three years the Bro-Am has grown from a small dream into a beautiful reality; it’s extremely touching to see our entire community rallying together for our youth. This year we’re honored to be partnering with StandUp For Kids, a nonprofit organization helping homeless and street kids in San Diego for the past 18 years. StandUp for Kids (www.standupforkids.org) is a national nonprofit volunteer outreach organization that started right here in San Diego. We’re thankful to live in San Diego, thankful for all the people who continue to work together to make a difference. Bring new socks, boxers, and canned “pot top” ravioli for the donation bin and find out how you too can get involved.

100% pollution free concert

We are very pleased to announce that this year, the Switchfoot Bro-Am has teamed up with San Diego-based Sustainable Waves to offer cutting-edge solar-powered sound and staging. Sustainable Waves utilizes the renewable energy sources of the sun to deliver 100% pollution free concerts. By using solar power rather than a diesel generator or grid power, the Bro-Am will avoid emitting approximately 1,000 lbs (half a metric ton) of CO2 into the atmosphere (the equivalent of not driving your car approximately 1,100 miles or the annual sequestration of 66 trees).

the bands on the beach

A free concert on the beach will run from 11AM-5PM featuring performances by Escalera (with pro skateboarders Danny Way and Bob Burnquist), Musket, Tom Curren, Kent Doonan, Stripes and Lines, A Fine Frenzy, The Cheap Leis, LA Symphony, and Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman and friends.

the surf contest

The surf contest will feature riders representing Hurley, Reef, Transworld Surf, Surfing Magazine, Surfer Magazine, Surfline.com, Macbeth, Jedidiah, AKA, Anon Optics, Surf Ride, Jet Pilot, Dental Specialty Associates, Chase Payment, San Dieguito Academy, and Switchfoot with surf legend Tom Curren.

the vendors

Beach vendors so far include INT, Anon Optics, Surfrider Foundation, Hoven, Life Rolls On, Harney Sushi, SurfAid, Jedidiah, Generosity Water, Menehune Surf, Island Way Sorbet, Pizza Port, 91X, Amadeo Decada, Cricket Wireless, Honest Tea, Kaimana Clothing, Guide On, To Write Love On Her Arms, and the Sundt Memorial Foundation.

the mural

Live mural art painting presented by The Glue Network and Artsprojekt. These are always incredible, an exciting first for this year’s Bro-Am!

the after party

Please join us at the Belly Up for the after-party hosted by Switchfoot with A Fine Frenzy, Musket, LA Symphony, The Watkins Family Hour, and Jon Foreman and friends: 8PM @ The Belly Up Tavern! (21+, www.bellyup.com)

So if you live here in Southern California, consider this to be your invitation: be our guest in our annual hometown party! If you live elsewhere, check out (http://www.standupforkids.org) for information as to how you can get involved.

peace!
jon
