Superchic[k] Brings “Beauty From Pain 1.1” To Columbia Records

Publish Date: Jun 06, 2006

Columbia Records is set to release Beauty From Pain 1.1, a new major label edition of Beauty From Pain, the #1 Billboard Heatseeker album from the revolutionary female-fronted pop/rock band Superchic[k], July 18th.

A longtime fan of Superchic[k], Grammy® winning Producer of the Year and A&R exec Steve Lillywhite brought the group and Beauty From Pain 1.1 to the Columbia Records roster.

Originally released as Beauty From Pain on the indie label, Inpop, in 2005, Beauty From Pain 1.1 will include the added tracks: Stand In The Rain, a brand-new song recorded especially for Superchic[k]’s major label debut and the Battle Mix version (from 2003’s Regeneration) of One Girl Revolution (the Superchic[k] breakout tune which premiered on the band’s debut album, Karaoke Superstar, and in the blockbuster film, “Legally Blonde,” starring Reese Witherspoon).

Beauty From Pain 1.1 will also feature new mixes of the songs Anthem and We Live. We Live, the first single from Beauty From Pain 1.1, is currently impacting radio at all formats.

“We see pain, hurt and heartache everyday all around us,” said Superchic[k]’s Melissa Brock about We Live. “We can choose to let it get us down and depressed, or we could use it to teach us to embrace the moments that we have and live bigger and love stronger. That’s what this song is about.”

The Chicago-based Superchic[k] is comprised of sisters Tricia Brock (vocals) and Melissa Brock (vocals, guitar), Matt Dally (bass, vocals), Canadian Dave Ghazarian (lead guitar, vocals), Brandon Estelle (drums, vocals), and Max Hsu (keyboards/DJ). The group’s eight-song demo, recorded in Max’s basement, became the core of Superchic[k]’s 2001 debut album on Inpop, Karaoke Superstar, which announced the arrival of a One Girl Revolution. Superchic[k] and Inpop released Last One Picked in 2002, a remix collection Regeneration in 2003, and, in May 2005, the first edition of Beauty From Pain, a Billboard #1 Heatseeker and was one of the top 50 best-selling albums for 2005 at Canadian Christian retail.

Superchic[k]’s pop-rock sound, a sophisticated blend of crunchy guitars, savvy turntablism, silky smooth harmonies and unforgettable hooks meshed with lyrics of honest introspection and personal empowerment, has brought the group burgeoning popular success as well as kudos from the music press.

The Chicago Tribune praised the group for “exquisite pop melodies, a sense of humor and… songs embraced by MTV and the movies.” The Dallas Morning News heralded the arrival of Superchic[k] as “an antidote to the toxic teen pop trend…” wielding “punkish pop with lyrics that skewer pop culture.”

From the declaration of One Girl Revolution in 2001’s “Legally Blonde,” to the propulsive sounds of Anthem roaring through the theme song of MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet 2” (which premiered last December) to the sounds of It’s On powering NBC’s promotional spots for the 2006 Winter Olympics, music from Superchic[k] has been heard in more than 60 different films and television shows including “The Practice,” “Alias,” “Felicity,” “Joan of Arcadia,” “Legally Blonde 2,” “Ice Princess,” “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen” and more.

Superchic[k]’s kinetic youth quake energy has been picked up by the gaming community and is prominently featured in “Steel Lancer Arena International (S.L.A.I.)”, a hot new video game from Konami Digital Entertainment.

With literally hundreds of live performances on the group’s resume, Superchic[k] has developed a well-deserved reputation as an incandescent and charismatic pop/rock phenomenon. Last November, Superchic[k] embarked on a European tour which included performances in Finland and Germany to audiences numbering more than 20,000 fans. Earlier this year,

Superchic[k] recently headlined the 40 city “This Is Your Anthem” tour which also featured special guests Seventh Day Slumber, KJ-52 and newcomers Eleventyseven.

YMZ is pleased to present a preview of Stand In The Rain and a sneak peek at the new album cover on Superchic[k]’s YMZ artist page. Beauty From Pain 1.1 will be available at Canadian Christian retail on July 18th.
