Ronnie Milsap And Seventh Day Slumber Featured On HearItFirst.ca

Publish Date: Mar 06, 2009

This week’s premieres include the first gospel album by a country music legend and the first worship album from a hard rocking band.

Ronnie Milsap ranks as the pre-eminent country soul singer of his generation. He also represents much more than any two-word definition can convey: a humble, overtly friendly fellow with a talent as vast and multi-dimensional as the American South. Milsap provided country music with one of its most important voices as the genre was moving beyond its rural roots into the mainstream of modern entertainment.

His track record speaks loud and clear: 40 # 1 hits, Over 25 million records sold, seven Grammy® Awards, four Academy of Country Music Awards, and eight Country Music Association Awards. Together, they underscore Milsap’s position as one of the best-loved and most enduring artists in country music history. The eternally optimistic Milsap forges ahead, positive about what the future may hold.

That spirit not only comes through in his music but uniquely in his new recording Then Sings My Soul: 24 Favorite Hymns & Gospel Songs. The first time Milsap has ventured into the Gospel roots he grew up with at the Missionary Primitive Baptist Church in the North Carolina Hills. An ambitious project produced by Grammy®-nominated long-time Milsap producer, Rob Galbraith, these 24 brand new recordings of classic songs that have stood the test of time.

The first worship offering from Seventh Day Slumber.

Take Everything contains nine covers and three stirring originals, starting with the title track. Instead of merely copying the current cuts on Christian radio and cranking out a few cliché-drenched copy cats, the project puts a fresh coat of paint on familiar favourites, enriched by three original cuts that find Joseph Rojas and company at their most spiritually vulnerable and intimate.

“We wanted to make these songs more appealing to some of the youth and teenagers out there,” says Rojas of staples like “How Great Is Our God”, “I Can Only Imagine”, “Famous One” and “Nothing But the Blood”. “They’re all really amazing songs and are obviously known by millions of people, but we wanted to record them in way that wasn’t wrapped around the traditional arrangements. We wanted people who wouldn’t normally listen to worship music to hear it in a way that’s relevant to them.”

“Surrender” has been added at CHR radio while “Lead Me To The Cross” has been added to AC radio.

The album was produced by Brent Milligan and mixed by JR McNeely (Hawk Nelson, The Almost, Jeremy Camp). The music video for “Surrender” was directed by Dave Hill (Thousand Foot Krutch, Capitol Lights, Wavorly) and serviced upon album’s release.

Both albums will be available this Tuesday, March 10th at your local Canadian Christian retailer where Take Everything will be specially priced at $12.99. Keep track of all the new and upcoming releases via your own personal copy of the March New Music Tuesday poster. Head over to HearItFirst.ca to hear these new releases.
