Blink, the fifth studio recording from Dove Award-winning Curb singer/songwriter and modern rocker Plumb, releases today. Produced by Jeremy Bose, Blink is an ambient collection inspired by Plumb’s two small children. The project explores both the awe and trepidation of motherhood while embracing a greater awareness of the depth of God’s love.
Eschewing her signature rock sound in favour of loops and ethereal programming, Blink showcases some of Plumb’s most honest and vulnerable lyrics yet. Highlights of the project include My Sweet, My Lovely, Me and Solomon’s Song, all of which reflect the intense intimacy and joy of motherhood, while In My Arms and Always acknowledge the human limits of maternal love.
Plumb wrote or co-wrote each of Blink’s selections, including collaborations with Matt Bronleewe, Shaun Shankel and Bose, with the exception of the hymns God Will Take Care of You and Children of the Heavenly Father, both of which hold a special place in her heart and life.
The album’s debut single, In My Arms, is currently #4 on R&R’s Christian CHR National Airplay chart, according to the October 5th issue.
“This album, like the others, reflects where I am, and right now that’s knee-deep in motherhood,” Plumb says. “When I became a new mother, the songwriter in me grew more than I ever dreamed. Motherhood has allowed me to better understand God’s love for me and, in turn, to be able to love my children in what I believe to be a very similar way.”
Winner of the 2000 Dove Award for Modern Rock Album of the Year for her 1999 sophomore release, candycoatedwaterdrops, Plumb is also an acclaimed songwriter. Her groundbreaking hits Cut, about self-mutilation, and Damaged, about sexual abuse, have helped shed light on these issues facing many teens and young adults. In addition to her own songs, Plumb has written for and with Michelle Branch, Mandy Moore, Kimberley Locke and Selah, among many others. Her music has also been heard in films and on soundtracks, including “Bruce Almighty”, “Just Married”, “The Perfect Man” and “Evan Almighty”, as well as on various television series, including “ER”, “Dawson’s Creek”, and “Felicity.”
Blink will be featured on www.HearItFirst.ca this Friday. For further information on the album, visit Plumb’s YMZ artist page.
