During the live telecast seen across the nation on Sunday night, Paul Brandt received the Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year for his hit album Risk. Canada’s most awarded country music artist was also honoured with the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award during Saturday night’s Juno Gala Banquet.

Being that the Juno Awards were broadcast from Canada’s official heartland of Country music, it was only fitting that the show kicked off with a boots-kicking, ho-down celebration from some of Alberta’s favourite sons, Brandt, Aaron Lines, Gord Bamford, Johnny Reid, and Shane Yellowbird. “Alberta Bound” brought down the house with thunderous applause from more than 13,000 music fans at the Pengrowth Saddledome, warming the stage for Host Russell Peters.

During his acceptance speech for Country Recording of the Year, Brandt thanked the screaming throngs of hometown fans at the Saddledome for their support.
On Saturday night, Brandt was bestowed with the inaugural Allan Waters Humanitarian Award for his support of both community and international organizations. A special appearance was made by Laureen Harper, wife of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who presented Brandt with the award. During his acceptance speech, Brandt recounted his humanitarian trips to Malawi, Cambodia and other impoverished nations. The Calgary Herald considered it an unforgettable moment of the Juno weekend.
