GRAMMY® nominee, Michael W. Smith attended the 50th Annual GRAMMY® Awards held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 10th.
Smith, asked by The Recording Academy to present during the pre-telecast, handed out 15 awards in the Pop and Country categories, including one to Country superstar, Carrie Underwood. Underwood was a surprise attendee at the non-televised segment of the awards and raced onstage to accept the first of her two trophies from Smith. “You couldn’t keep me from actually getting this myself. It’s not the same when someone else gets this on your behalf,” beamed Underwood.
Following the pre-telecast, Smith was ushered through a bustling red carpet and backstage media room where he spoke with outlets including Good Morning America, Access Hollywood, Entertainment Weekly, Associated Press, Reuters TV, LA Times, USA Today, Fox News and CBS.
While on the red carpet, Smith chatted with several fellow nominees.
