On November 20th, multi-platinum and award-winning band MercyMe will release their fifth studio recording, All That Is Within Me, and Christian radio couldn’t be more excited about playing their new single, God With Us. Besides setting the record for most AC adds in a week, over 75% of R&R’s AC panel has added the song by add date. Combining CHR and INSPO adds, God With Us is being heard on 79 R&R and CRW reporting stations and networks already.
In its first week going for adds the single debuted on R&R’s Christian AC-Monitored at No. 25, and No. 17 on its AC-Indicator chart, and while it was the most added on both of these AC charts, it was also such at INSPO and one of the top added singles at CHR this week as well. On CRW’s AC chart, the single was also its most added of the week, debuting at No. 37.
“MercyMe has done it once again,” remarks INO Record’s Senior Director of Marketing & Promotions, Dan Michaels. “They have delivered the right song at the right time, and our promotions team remains grateful to Christian radio for their continued support on this remarkable group.”
God With Us follows nine consecutive No. 1 Christian singles and four back-to-back mainstream radio hits from MercyMe since their multi-format smash, I Can Only Imagine in 2001. Recorded at Cider Mountain Recorders and ranch in Idaho (with strings recorded at London’s famed Abbey Road Studio), the band purposefully ‘got away from it all’ in order to soley focus on getting their creative direction straight from God for this project. As a result, an album of songs “straight from scripture” was created, and in many ways is taking them back to where MercyMe began, singing for the church.
“When we started making the new album,” commented lead singer Bart Millard, “I guess the underlying theme is us trying to be a grateful people for the fact that God ever looked our way to begin with. The song God With Us is the first song we wrote for the album, that we kind of built everything else around. We’ve been obsessed with this idea that we’re nothing without Christ and there’s no reason why he had to include us in anything but he still did, and how grateful we should be for the rest of our lives, and how we should spend it glorifying Him. Even though it will never compare to Calvary, we don’t do it just because we’re supposed to, we do it because we’ve been completely changed, and this is our attempt to try to wrap all of that up into one song. It’s become a really special worship song to us, and I hope it really ushers a lot of people into the throne room of Christ through worship.
