Kate Miner’s “Prodigal Martha” In Stores Today

Publish Date: Jun 14, 2005

Worship leader and prolific songwriter Kate Miner releases her Floodgate Records debut “Prodigal Martha” today.

Produced by David Miner (Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett), “Prodigal Martha” was recorded in early 2005 in Nashville, TN.  A host of amazing players participated in the recording of the project, including Phil Keaggy, Ramy Antoun (Seal), Gary Burnette (John Wesley Harding), and Steve Hindalong (The Choir, God of Wonders, City on a Hill).

Kate explains the project, “The most exciting thing about this particular album is that it’s a concept that is notably not talked about.  In fact, the idea of Martha is actually promoted.  We are flooded with messages of goals, living with a purpose, etc.  And that is important, but what isn’t cultivated is stillness that actually can happen in the midst of all the stuff of life.”

“While doing this record, the Lord showed me that all the good I was doing was actually pulling me from Him.  I was more concerned with doing the right things instead of building that relationship.  And the beauty of worship music is that no matter where you go, someone gets free.  Too often, it’s the only part of the day that is just about God.  But amazing things happen when people get together and are ready for worship.”

When asked about the project, Tim Taber, owner of Floodgate Records, states, “I have been a fan of Kate’s music for th past ten years.  The fact that we get to put out her album and expose her music to people all over the world is really special for me.  She is totally unique in what she does.  I think “Prodigal Martha” really shows her heart and her depth as an artist.”

The first single, Come To The Water, has been released to Canadian Christian radio. Audio clips from “Prodigal Martha” can be heard here and the album is available at Christian Retailers across Canada.
