Jaci Velasquez releases her new album titled Love Out Loud today. This will be Velasquez’s 13th record and debut release on her self-owned A’Postrophe Records. Velasquez teamed up with long-time friend and producer of her first three records, Mark Heimermann, to make what promises to be her best record to date.
Velasquez’s growth as a songwriter is evident on Love Out Loud as she co-wrote the majority of the songs. Here, Velasquez recounts the story behind each one.
Nothing But Sky
This song came at a perfect time in my life. I love the way a song can minister to your soul. Sometimes you have the privilege of writing it, and other times you get to step back and listen to someone else use his or her God given talent. The writer of this song shared with me that this song was written for and about me. It reflects the journey I have been on and where I am today.
It’s Not You, It’s Me
My dad and I had a strained relationship for quite a few years, due to my parents’ divorce. I never knew quite how to feel, as I was hurt and confused to say the least. This song was birthed after I received a phone call from my dad one day while sitting in my living room with my co-writers. It was this song that helped heal my relationship with my father. The song is about the realization that you may get hurt many times over but it will only hurt as much and as long as you allow it to. You have to let go, you have to forgive, and you are the only one YOU can control. I love my dad; I don’t want to miss a moment without him in my life.
Love Out Loud
I think the title says it all. Many of us talk about changing the world. I hope this song becomes a banner for everyone who has chosen to show God’s love through serving others.
Jesus (The Way)
A co-writer friend of mine played me this song and I fell in love with it immediately. It touches me in a way that is hard to describe. The song was originally written as a worship song for church. We have all fallen short of the glory of God at some point. The side of the story that matters most is the journey back to him.
When Words Fail
At times I find myself at a lost for words, while standing in the presence of the almighty. I pray God hears me, even though I am silent.
Weightless
There’s something that happens when you fall in line with God’s will for your life. The weight of all burdens is lifted off your shoulders. When Mark Heimermann showed me this song, I knew I had to sing it.
A Likely Story
This song is about courtship and falling in love with my husband Nic. It seemed too good to be true. Very much the same way I feel about the undeserving love I receive from God.
Tango
When I say marriage is like a dance, those of you who are married know what I’m talking about. Every marriage has its own distinct dance. Mine is the Tango. I love the dance and I love the man!
Por Escrito
Originally this song was to be on a Spanish release. What an amazing thing when God gives us an opportunity to share feelings and art with the one you love. The words to the song say, “Tell me the love between us is forever.” I asked my husband Nic to sing on this song with me. It is such a beautiful song and I’d say it is now one of my faves.
Into the Light Again
As a Christian, I know what it feels like to be searching for something greater. Even though I have a relationship with God, I still seek a deeper closeness with him. This song is not just about coming from darkness to light. It is my interpretation of a break thru with God in realizing that he’s been there all along.
