As Christmas draws near, The Gospel Music Channel’s fills their line-up with Christmas programming.
On Saturday, Marvin Winans and Distinguished (featuring former NFL players Gino Mingo and Marcus Price) appear on The Kitchen Sink, the channel’s new weekly primetime series which airs at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Winans sings You Just Don’t Want To Know and I Still Believe from his new CD Alone But Not Alone as well as Hark the Herald Angels Sing. New Modern Worship and Urban duo Distinguished performs Warriors/Worshippers from their recent debut CD of the same name.
Artists scheduled to perform on The Kitchen Sink in the weeks ahead include Byron Cage and Jake Smith (Dec. 15th); DecembeRadio and VaShawn Mitchell (Dec. 22nd); Jars of Clay and Mr. Del (Jan. 5th); Matthew West and Maurette Clarke Brown (Jan. 12th).
Immediately following The Kitchen Sink, two of gospel music’s most exciting vocal groups will present their unique and soulful take on the holiday season with the world premiere of Gospel Music Channel’s Christmas at Union Station: Take 6 and Trin-i-tee 5:7 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
Hosted by Matthew West, Christmas at Union Station: Take 6 and Trin-i-tee 5:7 features each group bringing a distinct flare to the hour of seasonal and sacred Christmas music. Take 6 gives their a cappella take on Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Lamb of God, Joy To The World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Let it Snow and O Come All Ye Faithful. The trio of Trin-i-tee 5:7 lend their lovely vocals on O Holy Night, Winter Wonderland, Silent Night, The Christmas Song and This Christmas.
The intimate and inspirational hour-long special was recorded at Nashville’s Union Station, A Wyndham Historic Hotel which Gospel Music Channel turned into and elegant Christmas wonderland for the tapings. The shows were held in the hotel’s lobby which is adorned with 65-foot, barrel-vaulted lobby ceilings featuring gold-leaf mirrors, 100 year-old, Tiffany-style stained glass, and rare bas-relief sculptures. Jars Of Clay kicked off the series on December 1st.
On Monday, American Idol favourites Mandisa and George Huff, will celebrate the holidays through song on the Gospel Music Channel television network, will headline the 84th Annual New York Stock Exchange tree lighting spectacular on Monday, December 10th at 4:00 p.m. EST.
On behalf of Gospel Music Channel, Mandisa will perform What Christmas Means To Me, Huff will perform O Holy Night and the two former American Idol finalists will sing a duet of The Christmas Song. Mandisa and Huff will share the tree lighting stage with fellow recording stars Jon Secada, Gloria Gaynor, Shades of Pink Breast Cancer Survivor Mass Choir and new Curb Records recording star, Tif McMillin.
This New York tradition is believed to be Manhattan’s oldest tree lighting ceremony. As in the past, 80,000 red, white, and blue bulbs will illuminate The Exchange’s dramatic six 50’ columns. The entire façade of The Exchange will also be transformed by 60,000 feet of electrical wire that will create an illuminated American flag measuring 40’ high by 72’ wide. The spectacular focal point will be the 54’ Norway Spruce decorated with 10,000 multi-coloured lights and 250 multi-coloured balls topped off with a 6’ star.
Each Christmas special can be seen at different time, check your local listings for air times. Also, check out Mandisa, George Huff and Jars Of Clay’s respective YMZ artist pages.
