Family Force 5’s “Dance Or Die” Debuts On Two Billboard Charts

Publish Date: Aug 27, 2008

Family Force 5’s sophomore release, Dance Or Die, has debuted at # 30 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart and # 8 on the Alternative Rock Chart with first-week sales totalling 12,989. Dance Or Die charged out of the gate with its funky rhythms, contagious club grooves and undeniable hooks.

Just off the Vans Warped Tour ‘08, Family Force 5 will hit the road again in October for a headlining club tour to more than 20 North American cities, including New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit and Toronto.

Dance Or Die, the Atlanta-based group’s second album, is replete with rippling rhythms, assaulting electronics, raucous rock ‘n roll, and an all-encompassing futuristic vibe. From the sci-fi synth textures of “Fever” and the thrash-tinged robotic rocker “Radiator” to its ultra-contagious title track, Dance Or Die has been described as “a musical version of Mad Max meets 2001: A Space Odyssey”.

Family Force 5 has built a sizeable and loyal fan base by averaging 250 to 300 days on the road each year. In addition to watching the band’s members thrashing the stage in self-designed futuristic “spacesuit” fashions, fans at this fall’s “Dance Rawr Dance 2” shows will bear witness to the “Family Force 5000,” a massive drum machine they personally invented that, at first glance, looks more like the next NASA launch computer than it does a musical instrument.

“It is the only fully-functional giant drum machine in the universe. It’s a six-and-a-half-foot tall, 760-pound juggernaut of pads, knobs, and switches that inhales electricity and exhales lightning,” says Family Force 5 vocalist and guitarist Solomon “Soul Glow Activatur” Olds. “The Family Force 5000 started as a joke three years ago. Then we mentioned it to a friend, who happens to be a wizard in electronics, and he was able to bring our sci-fi idea to life. The fact that we have a huge, light-up, chunky machine on stage is pretty cool, and it adds to the robotic rock element of this season.”
