Last Friday, the boys in Denver & The Mile High Orchestra were selected to perform during Week 8 of FOX’s reality show “The Next Great American Band”. Each contestant that was chosen by fans performed a song by British rock group Queen and an original.

For the first song, the band chose to perform Queen’s Sleeping On The Sidewalk. All three judges liked their performance. Johnny Rzeznik say that the group did a “really great version of the song” but the vocals could have been better. Sheila E. said that the band was “amazing again!” Her only criticism to Denver was that if he was to play the trumpet, he should choreograph it. Ian Dickson said that it was a “sassy rendition” and a “great song choice”. He was a little concerned about the presentation and the band needed to “step it up a bit for prime time”.
For the original song, the band chose Big White House. Rzeznik thought that the song was “pretty cool” and it “had some grease on it” as the band, in his words, “tend to be square.” Sheila E. said that the song was “very, very powerful and energetic” but there was “no hook to the song”. Overall, she “liked it”. Finally Dickson thought that it was a “good album track” and it “showed lot of conviction” but next time, he wanted the band to sing him “a hit”.
