This week’s features include one of Christian music’s most prominent voices and a prominent worship leader from the UK.

David Phelps’ first Christmas release on Word Records, One Wintry Night: A David Phelps Christmas is a stunning example of an ageless holiday album.

The project features nostalgic takes on Christmas favourites and contains several brand new arrangements, such as Elvis’ own Blue Christmas and O Holy Night as only David can sing it. Packed with traditional carols and Christmas songs, the project also includes six brand new cuts destined to become classics. This is the perfect grouping of songs for David’s amazing voice and cinematic performance. Along the lines of what Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant Christmas albums have become, One Wintry Night is a timeless offering that will provide the background for holiday gatherings for years to come.

“Every year since I wrote and recorded Rumours of Angels I have looked forward to writing another set of songs for the Christmas season,” says Graham Kendrick of his latest release Dreaming Of A Hotel Night, “particularly as every year we have a wave of requests for sheet music and backing tracks for Rumours, and indeed The Gift, the Christmas album previous to it.”

Graham continues, “This year at last I have felt the time is right and been able to make it a priority. It is quite a challenge for a songwriter writing for the Christmas season, because so much has already been done – it is hard to be original! However I was quickly encouraged with a flow of lyrical concepts and musical ideas, and ended up with more songs than I could fit in.”

Songs have been written with Christmas events in mind, so soloists and choirs will find fresh material to draw on as they plan carol services and concerts. There are several songs which feature characters from the story, in particular Joseph, Zechariah, Elizabeth and Mary.

Guest musicians include Dan Wheeler, Chris Eaton, David Cleveland and others.
