Celebrating Canada’s Brightest Talent

Publish Date: Jun 23, 2007

It’s no secret that Canada has been primary picking grounds for U.S. based record labels that are looking for talent. With Canada Day just around the corner, let’s all join hands and celebrate some of our own!

From his songs being sung in churches all across the nation every Sunday to having several #1 selling albums, Brian Doerksen is easily Canada’s favourite worship leader. Writing songs based out of his local church in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Brian remains committed to Canada with touring and conference speaking engagements. The normal mandate of the music industry, when signed to a U.S. based record label would be to move to the US but Brian has always made his home in Canada. His latest project Holy God duets with such artists as Christine Denté (Out of the Grey), Joseph Williams (Toto) and Debbie Fortnum. The album is currently #3 on the YourMusicZone Top 50 Chart representing actual sales in Christian retail stores across the country.

From rock to pop to southern Gospel, Canada is producing a lot of talented artists in many different genres and styles. Newcomers Newworldson are natives from Southern Ontario but combine R&B, Funk, Soul and even reggae to bring a contagious level of energy to their critically acclaimed debut release. Recently picked up by a major U.S. label, this band is certainly one to watch in the future.

The Gaither Homecoming concerts continue to pull one of the largest audiences in Canada. Performing recently in St. Johns to thousands of people the Bill Gaither and friends wow their fans with incredible vocals and stirring southern Gospel sounds. If you have never caught a Gaither concert, their DVDs of The Canadian Homecoming and Live From Toronto will surely uplift your spirit right in your own living room!

Among the youth, no other band is as hot as Hawk Nelson. With appearances in Hollywood films and soundtracks along with hit records these Canadian boys continue to rock the crowds at home and in the US landing on many major market tours.

One of our best loved rock worship bands, Starfield not only has best selling albums under their belt but they also had one of their most successful tours across Canada throughout the fall of last year. As Starfield’s songs continue to speak to today’s world in an honest and relevant way, the band’s own story shines through. Their CD, Beauty in the Broken reveals a band that strives for transparency and vulnerability in its music. My Generation, along with songs like Everything Is Beautiful and The Hand That Holds the World, examine the many facets of these ideas – from the cultural to the individual, from the universal to the personal, from the generational to the eternal – at the same time illuminating the spirit of a band in the process of becoming who it needs to be. They were recently nominated for a Juno award and are currently on their first UK tour! You can find their debut, self-titled album currently on sale for at Christian retail stores for a limited time.

In celebration of Canada Day, these CDs and many more, are on sale at participating Christian retail stores across Canada. Also, look for the Canada Day Music Parade flyer in your mailbox from Blessings Christian Marketplace!
