Brenda Lee Warmly Embraced By Gospel Music Community

Publish Date: Aug 21, 2007

After selling more than 100 millions records worldwide, becoming the first female artist in recording music industry history to enter the hallowed halls of both the Rock & Roll and Country Music Hall of Fame, Brenda Lee has found yet another new avenue of success for her still remarkable voice this time in the world of Gospel music.

The spring release by Provident Music of her first major label gospel album project, Gospel Duets With Treasured Friends, has found Lee being warmly embraced by a new segment of the industry as well as by a new audience of listeners. The album, featuring duet performances with creative friends that include Vince Gill, Martina McBride, Dolly Parton, Brooks & Dunn, Charlie Daniels, and George Jones has brought Lee strongly back into the realm of major media attention,

In April, she made her first appearance as a special guest artist on the “GMA Dove Awards” telecast, escorted to the stage amidst thunderous applause by her co-presenter, multi-platinum contemporary Christian artist Michael W. Smith.

This week Lee will be making guest appearances on national television, making her debut special guest appearance with gospel music legend Bill Gaither and company on the TV special Amazing Grace, the latest edition of his celebrated series of Homecoming Specials. Amazing Grace will be reaching Canadian Christian retail on August 28th as both a DVD and CD collection, featuring Lee’s performance of Have A Little Talk With Jesus.

Noted Lee about the Gaither appearance, taped this spring at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, “I have been a long time admirer of Bill and Gloria Gaither and their wonderful outreach in music so to get to be a part of this special was a personal career high-point to me. In addition to having the blessing of knowing her personally as a friend, I was also the biggest fan Vestal Goodman ever had so the Homecoming Specials have been a much anticipated television treat in our home for years.”

Also in the immediate future is the airing of a segment of The 700 Club, CBN’s flagship program which will spotlight an in-depth interview with Lee profiling her new music as well as her lifetime devotion of the gospel message that took root in her early childhood.

Lee noted to “700 Club” interviewer, Scott Ross, “Few people realize it but long before I recorded ‘I’m Sorry’ and the pop hits that established me with audiences as a teenage pop artist in the 60’s, I actually started my career as a child back in Georgia singing gospel music on weekends with the Masterworkers Quartet in Atlanta. To be so warmly embraced in gospel music is like a ‘welcome home’ from a very special family of friends at this point in my journey.”

Lee, energetic at 62, continues to perform an ambitious annual concert schedule for her legions of fans around the world. She especially looks forward to the Christmas season when one of her classic multi-million selling hits, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree becomes an annual staple for radio programmers on all formats, winning a new generation of fans for her as it has for more than 40 years.
