With the release of their debut album, Greater Things, in Canada, Bluetree have achieved what a thousand marketing plans would have hoped for but never delivered: created a buzz that has no regard for time zones or travel. Bit by bit – person by person – the news about Bluetree is spreading.
The story starts with a song – a powerful, intensely prophetic song that sets hearts racing wherever it is sung. Whether it’s Belfast, Johannesburg, L.A., Baghdad, or Ottawa, “God Of This City” is becoming an anthem that points the way to a better, bolder future.
Then they hear the album – a debut that gets broader with every listen. Of course it contains THAT song, but there are other tracks that travel well too. “For You” lights expectation with every chorus that crescendos into life; “Burn Me Up” and “Life’s Noise” are guttural, primal cries that connect on a deep level; ‘When I Survey’ brings the focus out beyond the present, to the cheerleaders and flag wavers of the past.
Cheerleaders and flagwavers – that’s Bluetree. Passionate about the church, excited about the prospect of seeing the prodigals return and the chance of joining local churches as they shine light into the darkest corners of their neighbourhoods.
There’s more to say about all this – of course there is – and the stories range from those involving 3-2-1 Penguins!®:Chris Tomlin and the new Passion 08 God Of This City album to ones that are smaller, more local – but no less dramatic – affairs.
But, for now, just take seven minutes and listen to the song, will you? We’ll carry on once you’ve done it…
