In ceremonies held earlier tonight at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE, Mary Mary took home the Contemporary Inspirational award at the 37th American Music Awards. The group was also nominated in the “SOUL/R&B – Favorite Band, Duo or Group” category but lost out to the Black Eyed Peas.
Other artists nominated in the Contemporary Inspirational category include Jeremy Camp and Brandon Heath.
The 2009 American Music Awards honoured artists in the categories of Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin and Contemporary Inspirational. For the third year in a row, winners will be determined by online voting at www.amavote.com and www.mycokerewards.com.
