Amanda Falk took home the award for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year at the 2006 JUNO Awards in Halifax last weekend.
The singer songwriter, who only began performing outside of her church three years ago, won the award against stiff competition in the category including Janelle, Relient K, Patricia Shirley and Thousand Foot Krutch. Her debut album also helped her pick up the Covenant Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in the fall of 2005.
“This Juno award completes an incredible three year journey for Amanda of writing, recording, touring, and communicating to thousands of people across this country,” says Falk’s producer, Avanté Records president Marshall Zacharias.
Falk told CJOB-AM680’s GodTalk Radio that her passion is to “see girls change their self image. It’s tragic to see so many girls trying to fit into the mould of who others tell them to be. We are valuable not because of how we look but because of who we are on the inside.” “At the awards it felt like an unreal world. Then we go back to our homes where we’re known for who we are” Falk says. “I love that; that will never change.”
Falk will be headed back into the studio this June to begin work on her sophomore release.
