Late last year, CARAS together with CTV announced that Brandt, will be the first to receive the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award in April during The JUNO Awards. The newly named award recognizes an outstanding Canadian artist who has positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada.
Brandt’s incredible commitment and concern for humankind and his vision and execution of events for a variety of humanitarian causes are helping to improve lives in Canada and around the world. He supports numerous organizations and causes including Alberta Children’s Hospital where he once worked, The Alberta Neurofibromatosis Association, the Alberta Torch Run for Special Olympics and the Brandon Cole Memorial Fund which is aimed at raising awareness of youth suicide and bullying. Brandt is also involved with international relief organizations such as World Vision and programs including ‘Turn on the Tap’, which aims to provide safe drinking water to families in the developing world.
Brandt says he’s honoured to be the first recipient of the award and thanked CARAS, CTV and The JUNO Awards for what he calls a “wonderful show of support.” “Music is spiritual. It touches us at the deepest parts of our beings,” said Brandt. “I feel so blessed to be able to use music to raise awareness for organizations like Samaritan’s Purse and its Turn on the Tap program. Music truly can be used as a tool to change the world and save lives.”
