Roger, Debra and daughter Lauren Talley are a musical family devoted to God and each other. While their roots are in southern gospel music, the east Tennessee family has developed a unique, progressive sound that combines southern gospel with praise and worship, hymns, and many other styles. The hallmarks of the “Talley” sound are their lush arrangements, closely-knit harmonies, and powerful vocals.
The Talleys’ top priority in concert is to present the gospel to the listener in song and testimony. Their professionalism and pursuit of excellence is only superseded by their ability to connect with an audience through the message of God’s love, grace, and forgiveness.
Roger and Debra Talley have enjoyed many years at the forefront of gospel music. They began their individual careers with other groups in the 1970’s, but from 1984 to 1993, The Talleys, consisting of Roger, Debra, and Roger’s brother, Kirk, were one of Christian music’s most innovative trios. An early hit, Sweeter As The Days Go By, reached the number one position on the gospel music charts. They were also awarded with a 1992 Dove Award for Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year, He Is Here. During this time, Lauren grew up traveling with her family beginning at the age of one. She would sing a song and quote Bible verses during the trio’s concert, to the delight of fans. In 1993, Roger and Debra felt a need to disband the group and spend time at home with ten year-old Lauren as a normal family. Meanwhile, Lauren’s love of singing and desire to share what God had placed in her heart had grown. Roger, Debra, and Lauren began performing together on a limited basis in 1996 as the Talley Trio. While they never intended to form a new group, their success was overwhelming, and The Talley Trio now carries on the family tradition.
The Talley Trio has enjoyed five number one singles, including three hits, I Love The Lord, The Healer, and The Answer is Christ, from the 2002 recording, Hope for Tomorrow. The Healer garnered many accolades including a 2003 BMI award for radio airplay. They travel in excess of 100 dates a year, which range from church settings to the Gaither Homecoming Concert Tour, Praise Gathering, and cruises with Pastor John Hagee and Jesse Duplantis. They have received many awards, including 2000 Southern Gospel Music Association Album of the Year for the recording Testament, which features the number one song, Searchin’, and wildly popular hit Testify, which also won 2002 BMI Song of the Year for most radio airplay. Debra is a 10 time winner of Favorite Female vocalist and Alto Awards from Singing News magazine and the SGMA. Lauren is already a two-time winner of the Favorite Young Artist Award. In addition to the trio’s discography, Lauren, 21, has released three solo projects, Lauren Talley, Surrender and I Live. She has also appeared on the long-running CBS/Global Television show Touched By An Angel, and is seen and heard in the family film series The Missy Files, both onscreen and singing the show’s theme song.
Although the Talleys are involved in many projects and continue to keep a busy traveling schedule, they enjoy attending First Baptist Church in their hometown of Morristown, Tennessee when their schedule permits. Whether on a concert stage, in a church sanctuary, or having a quiet dinner at home, their focus remains God and family.
