Artist Description | Parachute Band

Take a bunch of boys from New Zealand, arm them with guitars, leave them in a practice room, and then sit back and wait for their creativity to be unleashed.

We’re talking about the Parachute Band and we’re talking about five guys with a passion to lead the church in worship - globally and locally.

With their debut album establishing them as a worship band who know their calling and a second album now under their musical belts, the band is about touring the world and sharing what they have. For them it’s all about making themselves smaller as God gets bigger. It’s about using music to connect people with God. And it’s about being willing to go wherever He leads them on their journey.

Having completed extensive tours in the US, South Africa, Canada and Asia, the band is relishing each and every opportunity before them. They’ve grown tight as a family with their time on the road; the sense of unity is evident both on and off stage.

Choosing worship songs from New Zealand songwriters throughout the country, recording them and taking them to the world is what gives the band’s albums their uniqueness. Album No. 1, Roadmaps And Revelations, released worldwide by Integrity Music in 2007 and has already produced 4 hit singles in their local market, signalling that their sound is being well received. Not afraid to push the boundaries and try new things, Roadmaps was based around Psalm 119: “How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of Your word...” Touring this album has brought the challenge to youth world wide to get into the Word of God as the roadmap for life.

Album No. 2, Technicolor, sees a band that has found their niche. With arrangements more adventurous and sonically colourful than their previous album, Technicolor is based around the concept that God’s living water equals life in all its colour… full blazing colour. Even the artwork is a complete change of pace for the band - hand illustrated with a full colour spectrum. But there’s a flip side: Technicolor is also about how lack of either physical or spiritual water can mean lack of life, lack of colour.

Passionate about working alongside humanitarian aid agency World Vision, the Parachute Band have seen places in Africa where there is a lack of water and not much hope of change. To date they have helped to raise over 1,000 child sponsorships and are building relationships with the community of Tubehoneza, Rwanda.

One of the band’s favourite verses is Hebrews 13: 15 “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise - the fruit of lips that confess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

Worship, passion and action go hand in hand for the Parachute Band.
