Shachah

“Shachah:” a Hebrew verb meaning to bow down, to prostrate oneself before God in worship. And incidentally, the name of a fresh California band sure to be in heavy rotation following the Cross Movement Records release of On The Move. The band’s well-chosen name aptly describes their God-centred orientation, and the 15 soulful tracks of On The Move will turn a new audience on to Shachah’s mesmerizing mix of funk-rock and hip-hop.

The four Shachah members share a similar back-story, of loving both God and music from their earliest days. Coming together
initially through the Calvary Chapel music machine, they began hitting their own unique sonic stride while leading worship for a Costa Mesa college ministry. Opportunities only increased as their stylized sound and message-driven songs began to impact the southern California area, and Shachah began traveling the globe as “musicianaries,” performing everywhere from open-air concerts in Russia, to outreach shows in Palm Desert.

Shachah’s purposeful approach makes them a fitting match for the widely respected Cross Movement Records label, and their collective combustive powers make On The Move the album to hear this summer. Showcasing their astonishing musical diversity, the inventive quartet serves up high energy experiences like the edgy Won’t Stop, the rapid-fire spits of Hero and the techno-laced title track, but then flows smooth as lava on Arise, a potent mix of reggae and syncopated rap.

Lead singer/lyricist Brenden “Proclaim” McPeek holds our feet to the fire without remorse on You Said, and reggae track Go Forth brings it back to our purpose once again, calling boldly for the fulfillment of the Great Commission. This soulful, melodic Shachah experience comes to an end all too quickly with testimony closer Diligence.
