Article One is a Juno nominated Canadian pop/rock band from London, Ontario. With great songwriting, tight vocals, and Matt's exceptional violin playing, Article One has established itself as an excellent live band. Performing over 100 shows a year throughout the U.S., Australia, and Canada, Article One is also one of the hardest working bands in the industry. Since the release of Juno nominated Colors and Sounds in May of 2008, Article One has toured across North America with Newsboys, Superchick, and Starfield. They also had two songs chart in the Top 10 on American CCM CHR radio and a no. 2 hit in Australia.
History
Nathan and Matt Piché were brought up in a musical household. Both their parents are music teachers and their sister is a classical guitarist. While growing up, their father was a Christian musician who toured the country as a solo artist. Matt started playing violin when he was five years old and Nathan started playing piano at the age of six. Throughout elementary and high school, they received numerous awards both provincially and nationally for outstanding performance on their respective instruments.
At the end of high school, after playing a few different bands, Nathan and Matt decided to start their own group. In the summer of 2003, they recorded a five-song EP, and began performing around London. A year later, Dave De Smit joined the group. Word spread and they began touring across Ontario and eventually, across Canada.
In the fall of 2006, Article One was signed to Inpop Records. In 2007, Inpop re-released their self-titled debut internationally. That same year, they began working on their second album with acclaimed producer Tedd T (Mute Math, Delirious?, etc.). The result was the much more mature sounding Colors and Sounds released in the spring of 2008.
After two years of nearly non-stop touring throughout the U.S., Canada, and Australia, the band has just finished recording their third studio album Clarity.
Name
The band took its name from the first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration states that "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood". Article One works with both World Vision and Compassion.
